WOMPS (Word Of Mouth Print Space Storage) is a volunteer-led, community accessible, print making studio project, which began sometime in 2020.  We have equipment for screen printing on fabric, and paper, screen coating and exposing,  block carving and printing, cyanotype, and other general craft and printing supplies.  This project exists to try and make this infrastructure accessible to our community. When we are able we have open/guided studio hours, and various monthly workshops at sliding scale rates, and assist mutual aide projects with fundraising.    We are funded by grants, community support, and self-fundraising.  The project is operated by volunteers with various levels and kinds of skills and experience with printing, art, and social organizing.   This project is very much a work-in-progress, and is still growing and changing to find the best way to operate to meets the needs of the community, and the capacity of our volunteers and resources.  So things might change or not always operate at the same speed, capacity, or availability.  This is a collective that is open to others to join, tho it is small and close knit presently, and we are figuring out how that (and all of this works).

Presently, WOMPS does not have a physical studio space.  We were hosted in the BCC at its past location on Ventura ave in Sugar Hill.  When that space ended, we decided it was time for us to take a respite and figure out how to move forward with this project.  We have our equipment in storage, and are working on setting up a new studio, and creating print kits to loan out for “at-home” use.  We are occasionally and sporadically offering workshops at various locations (parks) around Tucson, and doing what we can to help with printing for various mutual aide projects in town.   Due to the unique aspects of our new space, it will have a different model of access, and based on the busy and changing lives of our core members, we’ve been on a long hiatus.   This is a project born of love for art and community, and we want it to stay that way, and not burn out, so we are moving at the pace that we are able.  We are eager to get things going again, so stay tuned, sign up to our mail list to be updated, and get ahold of us if you have questions, or are curious about tapping into getting womps going for its new era!
